Developing Nurturing Environments and Living Healthier Lives.

Modern medicine has solved acute illnesses, but it’s no match for our chronic disease epidemic. The rise of obesity, diabetes, auto-immune, and psychological disorders is a reflection of an unhealthy environment which encourages indoor, sedentary, and fast-food laden lifestyles.

Our economic system is people blind, and profits from ill-health, but is the growing societal cost from the way we live sustainable? How do we create the conditions and developmental experiences which allow people to lead healthy lives?

According to Anthony Biglan’s book, The Nurture Effect, healthy people arise from nurturing environments, and we start with his practical considerations.

  • Minimise toxic social and biological conditions

  • Teach, promote, and richly reinforce prosocial behavior.

  • Limit influence and opportunities for problem behavior.

  • Encourage psychological flexibility, which is a mindful approach to pursuing one’s values even in the face of emotional, cognitive, and real-world challenges.
