Big Strategy.

The highly effective way for community champions, innovators & alliances to develop strategies that work.

Why is thinking strategically so important?

Too many organisations lack a calm and systematic approach to strategy. Conversations around your direction of travel and your capacity to meet those outcomes often lack focus. This means that organisations can drift, unsure of their true mission and won’t be using their assets effectively.

But there are many ways to gain traction and structure your conversations more effectively. Big Strategy is being developed to offer that.

Latitude’s Big Strategy Workshops.

Latitude’s Big Strategy workshops and resources tap into some brilliant research that has been proven to work across multiple settings. Whether you are a solo entrepreneur, community group or large organisation, Big Strategy is simple to follow and something you can replicate yourselves at a later date.

You’ll get to look at your core (shared) values and discover your true mission. You’ll thinking more deeply about what you want (outcomes), what you have (assets) and what you will do (actions). It is not a linear process as honest debate helps you envisage more realistic outcomes, but it is embarrassingly simple if you follow the guidance and don’t allow yourself to merge the phases.

  • Noble Cause

    WHAT DO WE BELIEVE IN?

The Big Strategy asks you to start by identifying (or reaffirming) your noble cause and the values that underpin your strategy. Whether you are refining your approach or looking for the next stage this is where you will start.

  • Destination

    WHAT DO WE WANT?

The destination phase is your next step. What might the future look like for you and your organisation? What outcomes would signal that you are on the right path? It’s a time for blue sky thinking without concerns about “can we?”

  • Capacity & Capabilities

    WHAT DO WE HAVE?

In this phase you start by taking an honest look at your capacity and capabilities to start your journey towards your preferred destination. It’s not time to think about what you don’t have.

  • Mindset

    HOW WILL WE ACT?

What you do and how you act in response to your noble cause, assets and preferred destination is really important. A big part of the action phase is knowing that you need to experiment along different pathways.

The Three Big Strategy Questions.

Latitude’s Big Strategy is not a linear process because it causes us to stop between the phases to ask some important questions.

Big Question 1#

Does your current capacity & capabilities fully equip you to start your journey and meet your outcomes?

If the answer is “yes” then move to the ACTION PHASE. If the answer is “no” it’s time to consider how you will build capacity and what you will need.

Big Question 2#

Are your capacities & capabilities sufficient enough to help you meet your planned action?

The action phase requires you to consider how you will behave and act together. But it’s important to stop and consider whether or not you have the capacity to meet your plans.

Big Question 3#

Will the way you choose to act and respond actually help you meet your outcomes and reach your destination?

It’s an important question because without a shift in attitude and a shared agreement to travel together you won’t succeed.
